Upcoming Event: Tri-Cities Producer Showcase - Beat Battle 4th Edition

Street Hop Radio presents the upcoming Tri-Cities Producer Showcase. This live event is the 4th edition of the beat battles that have been taking place down at Maxwell's Music House at 220 King St. North in Waterloo. 

Come check out this event where 8 beat makers will square off in a battle for a cash prize plus a chance to win a 1 hour photo-shoot with photographer Matt McCarl. The event is 19+ and $10 admission at the door, sponsored by McCarl Photography.

New Video: Recap of Manifesto 2011 (5 Year Anniversary)

I let my self down last year, by not making it out for any of these events at the five year anniversary of the Manifesto festival in Toronto. That's why I'm making it my personal mission to attend many of the amazing events that will be taking place this year.

Born out of the idea of allowing the city’s young and emerging artists to showcase their talent on a bigger platform with a unified voice, The Manifesto Festival of Community and Culture celebrated its 5 year anniversary in 2011, from September 15th-25th in Toronto Canada.

The festival has grown over the past 5 years and we have something very unique and special planned for 2012. While you are here, let’s take a journey down memory lane and check out Manifesto Festival Recaps from year 1-4.

Mr Green: Live From The Streets ft. Peter Rosenberg, Soul Khan & Uncle Terry

If you are a fan of beatmaking, you'll be sure to find this interesting. Mr. Green has produced instrumentals for well-known emcees including Pace Won, Young Zee, Jedi Mind Tricks, and several others. If you search him on YouTube, he's most popular for his "Live From the Streets" series. This series takes you on a journey through the neighbourhoods of many cities in the United States, where Mr. Green is on a search for street performers. He'll record audio clips of the street performers and take the audio files back to the lab and create a beat out of the samples. I think this is a really creative way of showing people that there's more to music than just instruments and typical composition. Creativity and imagination are also key elements to producing unique sounds. This is just one example of the many videos he's contributed to this interesting series.

Recap of 2010 Battle of the Beat Makers

On Saturday August 28th, the Opera House in Toronto Ontario was host to the international Battle of the Beat Makers 2010. The tournament consisted of 32 hip hop producers going head to head battling for beat making supremacy.

At the end of the day, there was one clear cut winner, the tournament's first ever female champion was crowned. Dutch hip hop producer Neenah, from Amsterdam was declared the winner by a panel of judges which included hip hop producer Boi-1da.

Hip Hop Producer D.Shuts Making Beats With Eyekhon Entertainment

Drew Schoettler (a.k.a. D.Shuts) has been making hip hop beats for about seven years now, using programs ranging from Logic Studio to Ableton Live and Propellerhead Reason. His beats are usually made around the artists preference, yet this producer has a creative tendency to experiment as well, varying in Pop, Hip-Hop, Rap, and R&B styles.

Recently, D.Shuts decided to pursue his dream in music by attending the LA Recording School in October of 2010 to study recording arts, certifying him as a recording engineer. D.Shuts also plans to move and live in L.A. permanently.

Music is the life for D.Shuts, taking over all other things as top priority. The music he creates takes lots of time and effort to produce. Mixing down each of the instrumentals to give them that album quality sound, and equalizing the track to provide the perfect balance of all instruments, acoustic or digital.

"Beat Makers", An Indie Film On Hip Hop Producers In The Music Business

Reel One Entertainment presents "Beat Makers", an independent documentary on how hip hop producers are striving to come up in the music business. Executive produced by Eddie Singleton and Martin Kelley, this film is an in depth look at how the next generation of hip hop producers are using whatever they have and can get their hands on to develop the sounds of the future.

Directed by Laron Austin, this film completely captures the essence of hungry producers trying to come up in the competitive world of hip hop music production. Broken down into chapters, the documentary touches ground on what it takes for these producers to ultimately find their own level of success in the music business.

Chronicling their starts, struggles and successes, "Beat Makers" includes interviews with producers who have spent years creating their own unique twists on producing rap beats. Posing an array of questions, these interviews take place in familiar settings, such as home studios, vinyl record stores, and even street corners.

The producers involved with the film answer such questions as how they manifest inspiration, where they draw from creative influences, and how they dig to find samples. Producers also share their choice of equipment and software programs used to create their hot beats.

If you are considering a career in hip hop music production, this documentary may be all the inspiration that you need to go forward. I personally took the time to watch this film and was pleasantly surprised with how well it was produced. Being an emcee, having avid enthusiasm for good beats and great music, this documentary definitely struck a chord with me. I suggest you check it out if this is a facet of the rap music business that also fascinates you.

This new movie is about a hip hop producer looking to start his career in hip hop production by winning a national beat battle competition.
