More than just another film soundtrack, Beat the World is the coming together of some of the world’s most prominent conscious Hip Hop artists as part of a vision to build new social paradigms through music and film.

When Somalian born new-school rapper and World Cup ambassador K’NAAN joined forces with one of Hip Hop’s most respected founding fathers, KRS-One, to record the film’s title track “Hip Hop Nation”, they were on a mission: to represent the positive voice and power of the world’s largest music-based cultural movement – Hip Hop.

In addition to creating an original voice for Beat the World, they created an anthem for the evolution of the global Hip Hop movement. Soundtrack Sampler - http://soundcloud.com/hiphopconnect/sets/beat-the-world-soundtrack-1

“Hip Hop Nation” both drives the action of the film and emphasizes a shared underlying theme: we are all equal and united under one global movement, using music, dance and creativity to breakdown borders and stereotypes that may otherwise divide us.

Other notable collaborations on the soundtrack include the heroic “Infinite Love,” featuring top British rapper Sway together with the renowned lyrical wordsmith Talib Kweli, and the multi-lingual world-beat dance track “Must Be the Music” performed by Les Nubians (France), Lina (US) and MV Bill (Brazil).

The DJ! KRS-One & DJ Revolution Break Down DJ's Role in the Rap Music Business

This track is the perfect tribute to the mover's and shakers of hip hop. Forever keeping the club jumping and the parties popping, the DJ's can make or break an artist and/or a record label. In short, by serving the needs of the music fans, DJ's possess a real power in the music business that artists and labels can only cooperate with and never compete against.

I'm ashamed to say I came across this track only very recently, when in reality a hip hop head like me should have heard this long ago! Sometimes slept on, but never forgotten, the DJ's are still regarded as the most important "movers" of the rap music business.

I could sum it up, but this song already does a great job. KRS-One is still one of the most dangerous emcee's! His knowledge, creativity and hip hop spirit are unrivaled by few if any. Check this joint out right now!

Traditional Vs. Modern Adaptation of Hip Hop

What up every one ? Recently a friend and co-worker (What's Good Walker?) linked me to this interesting video, and it inspired this blog post. I've been a KRS-One fan since back when I first got into hip hop. Quite frankly I think that anyone who loves hip hop/rap music loves the history and roots it grew up on, KRS-One is someone who epitomizes the personification of hip hop (but that's just me).

I think KRS-One is synonymous with hop hop truth, so when he speaks I try to listen and learn from one of the best. Anyway, this clip is of KRS at the VH1 Hip Hop Honours from last year.

The legendary hip hop artist talks about traditional hip hop in perspective to how the digital music revolution has completely changed the landscape of the rap music business game. This video is great for hip hop entrepreneurs to learn from.

"The digital age is giving us more options. I do welcome innovation, no doubt." - KRS-One

I could actually disagree with some of the points that the rap veteran makes, but I have too much respect to do that (ha ha). Still, KRS always stimulates the mind and makes us think outside of the box when it comes to innovative hip hop.

Check out some of the other KRS-one videos up on YouTube. The man always comes to the table with some knowledge, he is the hip hop teacher. If you haven't already, go read one of my earliest posts which included a link to a video of the hip hop artist in an interview with author and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Also check out the STOP THE VIOLENCE movement.

DMC To Host New Rap Reality Program on MTV

Legendary emcee Darryl "DMC" Daniels is in the process of creating a new reality tv show for MTV. The show reportedly will be geared towards young aspiring hip hop recording artists. Entitled "Kings of Rap", the competitive show will present a challenge which proves to correct the "broken" repititve way hip hop's thought patterns.

I think the idea is great ! On the "Kings of Rap" show, contestants will be challenged to create a songs that "do not glorify violence, degrade women, or include the use of profanity". Even though we all know it's easily possible, that still seems kind of hard to do ! Hip Hop to me represents self expression, and fuckin' right I love me the use of some good profanity haha. Although I still think this is an excellent concept for a show.

The program will be shot mostly in New York, considered a mecca of hip hip music. Darryl "DMC" Daniels made an excellent point, arguing that the culture [of hip hop] now embraces the negative ways that it originally protested and demanded be changed. "DMC" also added "There are so many talented young artists that are not being heard, or signed because they are not controversial enough, or they are too consciously positive."

I agree, it is more difficult for conscious or "positive" hip hop artists to break through, but I think thats mainly because most of the new artists are afraid to be positive. There are many positive, or spiritually uplifting emcee's, some of which were not always making positive music. KRS-One for example is a pioneer for using hip hop to stop the violence. Peep KRS-One's STOP THE VIOLENCE CAMPAIGN !!!!

Alex Jones (of InfoWars.com) is one of the only media personalities who have given this campaign exposure. This is a good interview to listen to !

What do you think about DMC staying relevant years after establishing himself as a hip hop legend ? What do you think about the movement by well known artists pushing for positive change in hip hop ?
