Jay-Z Sets The New Rules: RIAA Changes Policy Regarding Album Sales in Digital Formats

He said he would set the "new rules" and he did. Rap music business mogul Jay-Z's new album "Magna Carta Holy Grail" is officially the first album to be certified platinum before it's actual release.

That's some crazy shit.

We think it’s time for the RIAA – and Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman – to align our digital song and album certification requirements.  That’s why today we are officially updating this rule in our G&P Program requirements.  Going forward, sales of albums in digital format will become eligible on the release date, while sales of albums in physical format will still become eligible for certification 30 days after the release date.

New Video: "Rap vs Real" by Saigon

This is one of the most eye-opening tracks from "Bread and Circuses II", and also one of my favourites. Saigon keeps it G as always and spits the truth over a hard beat. I really like how he made contrasts of every line throughout the song. The shit he says is sort of a reminder to anybody out there thinkin' the rap game's all flashy cars and horny women. Here's the track along with some recently released visuals. Check it.

New Video: "That's What I Do" - Classified

This video is perfect. Classified is the most real, down to earth rapper ever. Throughout the course of his career, he's quietly fought against any stereotype you could ever hold against rap music. The evolution of his music seems to match his evolution as a person. Over a mellow, soulful beat, Classified lets you know what he does. This is too sick... Canada represent!!!

Classified's self-titled album can now be found in stores, or on iTunes.

New Video: "Not a Day Goes By" by Brother Ali

Whattup world! This video just came out today, and totally surprised me. Not even the fact that it's a new song that I wasn't anticipating, but I was surprised by the different side of Brother Ali's character. I kinda like the attitude he had in this song, which was amped up even more by the cool video effects and the crazy beat produced by Jake One. The end of the video displayed the title of Brother Ali's next project, "Mourning in America and Dreaming in Colour", which I'm not even sure if this song is a part of. Either way, it's got me wanting to hear the new album, which hits stores on August 13, 2012.

Mr Green: Live From The Streets ft. Peter Rosenberg, Soul Khan & Uncle Terry

If you are a fan of beatmaking, you'll be sure to find this interesting. Mr. Green has produced instrumentals for well-known emcees including Pace Won, Young Zee, Jedi Mind Tricks, and several others. If you search him on YouTube, he's most popular for his "Live From the Streets" series. This series takes you on a journey through the neighbourhoods of many cities in the United States, where Mr. Green is on a search for street performers. He'll record audio clips of the street performers and take the audio files back to the lab and create a beat out of the samples. I think this is a really creative way of showing people that there's more to music than just instruments and typical composition. Creativity and imagination are also key elements to producing unique sounds. This is just one example of the many videos he's contributed to this interesting series.
