New Video: "Against the Current" by Chali 2na ft. Ming-Xia

 

Man, I can't believe I missed this! Chali 2na is an absolute beast on the mic, and one of the most respectable. As in this song/video, he always manages to bring something fresh to the table. This is some straight-up hip hop. Sick beat, crazy lyricism and a smooth chorus. This song's from the 1st of his series of 5 EPs, entitled "Against the Current". I don't know much about the series, but apparently it's accompanied by a book-of-art. With all of the artwork done by the 2na himself, the book depicts the evolution of his career through oil painting. True art over here folks! I'm gonna be looking forward to coppin' it all. But for now, imma just have to hammer this track into my head. Check it.

New Joint: "Speed" - Slaine ft. Checkmark, Termanology & Lu Balz

 

 

One of the many albums that i'm anticipating for this year is Slaine's "The Boston Project". His last album, "A World With No Skies" is one that I still listen to frequently, so it's gonna be interesting to hear what's up his sleeve this year. This song has a cool feel to it, with a nice hook and a smooth beat. Check it.

"The Boston Project" is set to be released on March 19, 2013, and features acts such as Esoteric, Jaysaun, Edo G and REKS.

New Joint: "Juice" - Ces Cru ft. Tech N9ne

 

Maaan. This track is ILL. Such a sick old school hip hop feel. I love the drums and the bassline in this. The combination of 'em both form a beat that give you no other choice but to nod your head. Well, for me at least. But as usual, the 3 elite emcees from the Strange Music label absolutely murder this beat. This track's off Ces Cru's upcoming album, "Constant Energy Struggles", and seems to act as a sign that they aren't fucking around by any means on this album. Check it folks!

New Joint: "Hate Me Later" by JD Era ft. Mac Miller (prod. by Beat Merchant)

Whattup world! Just found a new track that dropped this morning. This joint by Toronto emcee, JD Era, is entitled "Hate Me Later" and features Mac Miller. This single is the first release from JD Era's upcoming mixtape, "No Handouts", which drops on April 16. It's always good to see Canadian talent making progress.

New Video: Who Am I? by Emilio Rojas

Here's a new video by Emilio Rojas that dropped yesterday. For the first couple lines, I thought this track was gonna be weaker than his usual shit, but the track as a whole product is really well done. The beat for this one built up nicely too by the time his semi-melodic chorus hit. In the first verse, he covers some personal content regarding his family. Since Emilio and I live two different lives, I can't say I relate to him, but I can definitely feel where he's coming from. I liked the second verse more than anything though. His attitude towards where he stands in the hip-hop game is exactly how I feel, and I ain't even near his amount of progress. It always satisfies me to hear a dope emcee talk down on the rest of the mediocre rappers that are put in the limelight, even if they don't deserve it. I read this quote the other day on The Jokerr's facebook feed, "It is better to deserve honours and not have them than to have them and not deserve them." I believe in this quote, and emcees like Emilio Rojas definitely deserve more props than they actually receive.

Mr Green: Live From The Streets ft. Peter Rosenberg, Soul Khan & Uncle Terry

If you are a fan of beatmaking, you'll be sure to find this interesting. Mr. Green has produced instrumentals for well-known emcees including Pace Won, Young Zee, Jedi Mind Tricks, and several others. If you search him on YouTube, he's most popular for his "Live From the Streets" series. This series takes you on a journey through the neighbourhoods of many cities in the United States, where Mr. Green is on a search for street performers. He'll record audio clips of the street performers and take the audio files back to the lab and create a beat out of the samples. I think this is a really creative way of showing people that there's more to music than just instruments and typical composition. Creativity and imagination are also key elements to producing unique sounds. This is just one example of the many videos he's contributed to this interesting series.

New Video: "Lando's Jam" - ¡MAYDAY!

Whattup readers? My name's K Brenton, writer @ Eternal Cadence, and from now on I'm going to be helping RTiculate by contributing some of my favourite music to this blog! I figured I'd start it off by sharing this video. ¡MAYDAY! recently joined independent mastermind, Tech N9ne, under his Strange Music label. Their first album under this label, "Take Me To Your Leader" was released last Monday. I was lucky enough to buy the only copy of this CD at the HMV in Kitchener, and after listening through it several times, It was definitely worth every dollar spent. This band puts out a unique sound, using mostly live instruments with gritty rock/jazz elements intertwined with hip-hop. Check out this video for one of my favourite songs off of the album, entitled "Lando's Jam".
