Junk Science & Scott Thorough Featuring Homeboy Sandman "You Could Have That"‏

Here's a little background info about the song courtesy of Mike from Junk Science
"Me and Snafu met Homeboy Sandman when we were all guests on Billy Jam's show on WFMU last Spring. I had baked cupcakes to bring to the radio station because I heard there were going to be a lot of rappers there and I thought it would be funny to do something so un-hip-hop, cause rappers are always mean to each other unnecessarily. So I was going to come through like, 'hey guys, I baked cupcakes for everybody.' Anyway, while we were up there, Billy played 'Mean Mug' from Homeboy Sandman's album and I was like 'Oh, he's on that shit too.' We ended up going to his album release party and he came to ours, and so when Snafu and Scott started making the beats for 'Phoenix Down' we immediately thought of getting Boy Sand on the album. Sometime over the summer we got up and recorded this one."
Junk Science & Scott Through's "Phoenix Down" EP will be available on 5-31-2011 on Modern Shark.

Junk Science & Scott Thorough Release New Album On Flash Drive + New Single "Pixelated"‏

Junk Science is Baje One on the mic and DJ Snafu on the beats. Simple. Scott Thorough is their fellow Nuclear Family crew member/producer extraordinaire. Snafu and Scott Thorough made the beats for “Phoenix Down” using ALL original music played on 8-bit synthesizers (the same tools available to the musicians who created the original scores for The Legend Of Zelda, Contra, and Ninja Gaiden).

Snafu and Scott Thorough layered their new compositions with heavy break beats and set the sound scape for Baje to do his thing on the mic. This is some of that hardcore NERD RAP, but this group is f*cking proud of it!

“Phoenix Down” is the first full-length collaboration between Junk Science and Scott Thorough, and it’s due out on 5-31-2011 on Modern Shark (Junk Science emcee Baje One’s own label, launched in 2010).

In the Final Fantasy series the Phoenix feather - the “Phoenix Down” - is an item used to revive a fallen party member. In other words, it’s a tool used for resurrection. “Phoenix Down” isn’t just about video games per se, it’s more like games are the backdrop, the influence behind the music.

That being said, all three of these guys are serious video game nerds and the album is full of references to classic old-school titles. Fans of the original Contra game will definitely recognize the hook from ’30 Lives’. Even "nerdier" nerds will catch references throughout the record to games like Chrono Trigger, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and Street Fighter 2.

"Phoenix Down" will be released digitally and also on a limited-edition, custom-molded USB flash drive in the shape of a ‘pixelated’ feather. The “feather” will arrive in a brown velvet pouch simply sporting the words “Phoenix Down” in a classic 8-bit font. Along with the music, those who purchase the drive will also get the instrumentals and the acapellas for all eight tracks.

Included is the first single from Junk Science & Scott Thorough’s “Phoenix Down” project, entitled “Pixelated”: http://modernshark.com/junk-science-scott-thorough-pixelated-free-dwnld
