Influential hip hop producer/artist Hi-Tek is actively encouraging the young people of his home state of Ohio to vote and make a difference in government. Here's the scoop:
WHAT:
On October 26th, League of Young Voters Education Fund (LYVEF) presents their online “Young Voter Live” chat with renowned hip-hop artist, producer, and Ohio-native Hi-Tek to take place at Elementz Hip-Hop youth center. The “Young Voter Live” chat is a continuation of the popular “Summer Chat Series” during which current social topics such as politics, activism and community building were discussed with celebrity guests and prominent moderators.
Next month, Ohio voters will select their next batch of government officials and LYVEF has been on the front lines pounding the pavement, working to register youth voters throughout Ohio and most importantly get young people out to vote. Last spring, Gov. Kasich's administration passed SB-5, decimating Ohio workers' rights. The controversial law could lead to massive layoffs of teachers, firefighters and law enforcement in the state.
Young people are taking to the streets as they face rampant unemployment and unprecedented attacks on their right to vote. Ohio sets the stage for political movements nationwide - and this is no exception. With Hi-Tek’s participation, this online event is the perfect way to bring the Ohio community together to voice their concerns and encourage them to vote.
WHO:
Innovative Ohio-native, influential hip-hop artist and producer Hi-Tek, who is obviously well known for all his great work with Talib Kweli's “Reflection Eternal” and “Blackstar”. He will be joining The League of Young Voters, a national organization dedicated to increasing engagement amongst urban youth. The online event will be streaming live from the Cincinnati based Hip-Hop youth center, Elementz.
